Lights blowing up WTH is going on?

Finally got the passenger window fixed. $10. Just needed the regulator attachment slider clip. BUT NOW, lights blowing everywhere. Both high beams blown. Rear lights, brake/stop blown. And worse, tonight coming home another right rear light blown. BUT weird, the cyclops light is staying on when the lights are on. SO, is this the light module? The brake light switch or time to just torch this old X? Really frustrating, fix one thing, now another. Help.

We just sold our X5 today toward our next one. Oil leak so bad and coolant just starting to get bad.

I have an oil leak for over 50K miles, about a cup or two every week, but only when it's sitting idle in the drive. Obviously you're a gluton for punishment. This will definitely be my last GERMAN vehicle. Over-rated. Although, it is 20 years old, 264K miles and still going.

So bulbs (not fuses) are blowing out almost simultaneously? and it was immediately after a door regulator fix?

I think I would pull the door card again and check all wires..Feels like something might be grounding where it shouldn't be...maybe a frayed wire

I was also thinking a bad voltage regulator (part of alternator I think). But if this were true, I think you would see many other strange symptoms. Put a multimeter on the battery while running. I also use a nifty voltmeter that plugs into lighter.

At least you have an X5 with no rust - assuming it's a Florida car.

Hopefully you'll find a good E53 to replace it with, just so you keep focused on xoutpost stuff.

But if you must get a different car, PM me and I'll give you a short list of candidates that I'd be really happy if you bought as well.

Brake light switch??

Symptoms. Turn on car. Brakes light/center top/all on. Turn on driving lights, brake lights all on and rear lights on. Hit the brakes. Light doesn't change intensity. Engage Hazard/flashers - work properly. Turn off driving lights, brake light(3) stay on, no intensity change when brake engaged. Clue: Steering wheel controls don't work. NO cruise control.
SO, it's either a bad BLS, or it needs adjustment. Oddly, it's a piece of plastic that triggers electric current, so even if the switch is good, something electric is wonky. So what determines a bad BLS?
Thanks.
PS: checking fuse/volt meter tomorrow.
Anyone wanna buy a used X?

So this is a different problem? You started this thread about blown lights.

It is starting to sound a little like a bad ignition switch...maybe just dirty contacts on the ignition switch.
