N62 6spd transmission problems.Software reset/ update time?

Guys my tranny has been acting up lately especially uphills..its horrible..shifting all over the place or not shifting at all til it reaches over 1000rpm's..
On the highway is smooth..but slower speeds, under 20mph especially its not good.Slows me down like its braking by itself.Downhill same thing..it downshifts by itself .It never knows when and how to shift except the time im on the freeway at higher speeds..then it gets it's "brains" back .

What are my options right now?reset?new tranny software?New transmission oil change and filter?I'll try anything except changing the tranny.

Go get the trans serviced at an Indy shop that knows BMW's.

Should cost you around 400 bucks. I had issues similar to your's and a trans service solved them. Make sure the service includes flushing the torque converter as well as changing the filter, gasket and the rest of the fluid.

A tranny service is next on the list.Out of curiosity, what kind of transmission is on my car?GM or ZF?is there any way of knowing or do I have to get under the car and read the sticker?
Do you guys buy your own fluid and filter?i still have a few quarts left of some Pentosin tranny fluid from the last time I serviced it on the E39, but I suppose they require different fluids...

You don't need to spend 4x on OEM fluids! total waste of $$$, the color of the fluid means absolutely nothing! I did a filter / mechtronic "sleeve" change and topped it back off with Redline D4 and it has been 15k miles since and it shifts 100x better then when I got it!

I did the change @90k and plan on doing it again @150k miles. ended up costing me around $70 including parts ( yes, I did find a deal on the oil from a guy on CL)
