Start the engine, open the door and put your head near the bottom of the door, shut the engine off. Do you heard a noise like a motor turning with a stripped gear? If you do, the plastic gear in the transfer case is stripped. Another Big Ticket item for the BM Trouble U.

Go to youtube and do a search for BMW transfer case.

Also those short trips around the block is not doing the engine CCV any good. Take off the oil cap and see if you see a yellow mayo forming on the cap.

Bad alternator can cause this as well.

Access the voltage readout in your OBC, check voltage with engine at idle. Also check voltage when holding the engine at around 2000 rpm for a minute or so. If you see voltage dipping down low your voltage reg or alternator are probably on their way out.

I had the same issue and replacing the alternator solved it for me.

I will check the alternator and battery. The X's been sitting for a while its starts right up but once its warm up that's when all three lights come on i don't hear any clicking noise when i turn the X's off . could it be the steering angle sensor because my steering isn't line up with my wheels since i installed my steering wheel? This just started to happen a week ago and i'm not even driving the X's
