Help needed with ABS Problems
I was washing my oil covered 4.4 engine yesterday, (so much oil everywhere, it was impossible to see where it was coming from, and the valve cover gaskets are new and don't appear to be leaking.) Even though most of my spray was directed towards the lower front of the engine, I apparently caused a problem with the ABS, perhaps some water got somewhere it shouldn't be.
I do have the ABS/DSC/Brake trio of lights on. When hooked to my friend's Autologic, if I clear the faults, they come right back as soon as the car moves. The fault that is showing up as "15 ABS Return Pump" Also, when checking the ABS system with the Autologic, both the ABS Return Pump AND the Pre Charging pump show as "OFF" and it does not appear that they can be activated, (although the Autologic can activate every device on the car, I'm not sure this is one you would hear or see a reaction, of if the normal state is supposed to change to "ON" when activated. If you have the Autologic turn on the windshield wipers...you KNOW the wipers are on.) I tend to not believe in coincidences when it comes to auto repair. It IS possible this failure was just a coincidence, and had nothing to do with my cleaning of the engine. But I would bet I got water somewhere bad. My next step will be to remove the big connector to the ABS module and air dry everything and spay some contact cleaner. Then put the connector back on, and hook it to the Autologic again. Anything else I should look for or try????
