Bad LCM or something else? (photos/videos)
So I've had this car about six years now, and almost immediately I replaced the amber tails with clears from a facelift model. The standing lamp section (middle one) is always lit at brake lamp intensity when the lights are on. It's not really a big deal, but definitely something that is irritating to a perfectionist like myself. I coded off Adaptive Brake Lights, but the problem persists. I recoded the LCM with SSS Progman and followed the LCI Taillamp retrofit path, again... no help.
E53 Taillight Problem - YouTube Secondly, after installing DEPO projector HIDs w/ LED corona rings last year, my instrument cluster and ambient lighting has a tendency to be either incredibly dim, somewhat dimmer than full intensity, or full intensity. In the first case, the dimmer switch doesn't respond at all. ![]() E53 Dim Cluster Lights Not Responding to Dimmer - YouTube Anybody have any ideas? I'm going to dump my LCM FSW_PSW or whatever in a few minutes and post it, maybe one of you knowledgable folk can detect if anything is a miss. PS: Is it possible to embed videos on here?

You swapped the pins on the tail lights, right?Cant help you on your dimmer issue but I can confirm that after installing Depos and rear facelift tail lights (swapped pins),I get an LCM error registered on our dealer machine. In fact ,the detailed errors show that I have blown rear lights ,reverse ,side lights ,turn signal, etc ,blow side lights at the front and xenon lights faulty! When ,in fact all are working fine and I dont even have any lights out message on the OBC!So ,no problem ,its the just the LCM not recognizing non OE equipment.

Those two issues would drive me crazy.
If you swapped the pins on the plug the facelift tails should work fine on your model. I have LED tails on mine so no comment, but on my 03 I had to swap pins to make them work right as well. As far as the Depo headlights go, that would drive me nuts. Did you hook up both triggers to the ECU and the footwells? If it were me I'd see if one of the trigger taps is loose at all. As well, I'm not a huge fan of just tapping into the ECU and having the LED rings constantly on, there should be a pin coming off the LCM which you can tap and have them work as parking lights (factory operation). Was your programming to the LCM done prior to the issues with the Depo headlights or after (basically want to know if your programming created an error with the dimmer switch)

Yeah, I steadfastly refused to have them wired as "always on." It's just plain tacky IMO.

I did switch the pins a couple of months ago, but all that served to do was render the middle section inoperable. All the problems started before I began messing around with the LCM. The tail lamp problem has always existed, the interior lighting issues only started when I had the HIDs and corona rings installed.
At first, the guy who installed it tapped into the parking lights as a trigger ("It's worked for all the one's I've done so far!"), but then I noticed the rings flashed with the turn signal, so I took it back and had him tap into the LCM. That's when I started having random problems with the interior lights. I don't know which line he tapped, or if he tapped the LCM at all. He may have just wired it directly to the headlight switch. I don't know. Here's a dump of my LCM, and I'm noticing that my coding changes (i.e., brake force display, cold monitoring of low-beams, etc.) did not get coded. I've still got some learning to do, apparently, but I'm trying! It was originally a halogen car (don't ask me why), so keep that in mind when reading the trace file. Quote:

Id check to see where he tapped those rings if the problem has been there previously.
