anyone else experience this? Brake Squeal?
The past few days we got hit with the good old polar vortex again.
At first my brakes started to squeak like crazy when turning and braking at low speeds, today they started to squeal while braking gradually in a straight line as well. My pads and rotors at all four corners are OE spec, have only around 3k miles on them. They do not appear to have any excessive or uneven wear. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Maybe the excessive cold, salt, snow has cleared any anti squeal grease off the brakes? Dirty? I'm going to pull the wheels off and give a closer look tomorrow, just wondering before hand if anyone has dealt with this and if there are any specific areas to look at? Never had this happen before on any of my BMW's.

I'll give that a shot tomorrow. It's probably the case.
with the horrid weather and roads we have had all winter, this car has seen about 2k miles of very slow driving and gradual braking. I'll romp on the brakes a few times tomorrow to see if the sound gets lost.

Maybe take a look first, at least through the wheel spokes?
It would suck to find a problem at high speed!

Take a look at my original post. I've already inspected all four corners. Nothing seems out of the ordinary. I'm going to try to hard brake a few times today, if that doesn't clear the problem I'm going to pull the pads off to apply a little more ceramic brake grease to the contact points. I seriously have never been more ready for winter to end. This year has been BRUTAL.. Negative windchills for weeks, sometimes dipping to -56, snow every time the temp gets above zero. Spring can not come soon enough.

Yeah mine does the same as well during cold mornings. Mostly its because the compound in the brake pads need time to head up, coupled with moist cold air oxidizing the rotors, creating a thin layer of rust on the rotors. Slow speed braking creates a minute amount of chatter and vibration, causing the squeak. It's just something you have to deal with. Even with ceramic pads will do the same. Atleast with OE pads, the initial cold bite is very good. Ceramic compounds in extreme cold almost feel like a pad soaked in water. When you give the first brake, theres no bite because there is no heat.
