Smile X5 E53 4.4 Transmission Slipping/Resisting

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the Forum, I have a 2003 4.4 E53 and recently I've noticed that going from 2nd into 3rd the car sometimes shudders, when I press the gas pedal she shifts along as normal. I've also noticed a distinct dragging sensation whilst on the highway too. For example I'm doing 60MPH/100KM but there is a resistance to movement of the car, it's as though the car is towing something......the engine itself is running smoothly but there's something seemingly creating a rolling resistance on the car's forward movement.

I've read lots of posts and the nearest indicator I have to my problem is the Torque Converter, the gears change smoothly and there are no grinding noises.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Mark.

Is yours the 5-speed (ZF 5HP24) or the 6-speed (ZF 6HP26) transmission?

Phil

How many miles do you have on it, have you serviced the transmission and have you tried to reset adaptations yet?

Unhappy E53 Slipping possibly Mass Airflow Sensor/Transmission

Hi Guys,

I've had an unfortunate development to my previously listed topic, I was convinced that it was the transmission but now I'm not so sure, the car broke down last night and now it will not start. It started shuddering (as usual) and then lost all power, I tried to crank the engine but she just won't start. This is leading me to believe that it is not a transmission issue at all.

The car was towed away and is now with my local mechanic. They can't look at it for a few days, I had a similar issue years ago with a V8 a Jaguar I owned and it needed the mass airflow sensor changed. Same symptoms and an easy fix.

What do you think?

Won't start shuddering when moving

Thanks for that, how do I pull the codes? Is is only via diagnostic equipment?
