need wheel suggestions

Selecting the best looking wheels is one of the hardest things in modifying my X5, so I need your suggestions guys. I'm planning to buy at 4WO since most of their offers are really good (Click here for the link of their wheels). I'm looking at the American Racing, Diamo and Maxxim wheels. Any advice on what to get? And if you have other suggestions on what brand and design of wheels will look good on my X5, just let me know. Thanks in advance.

Forget those that you're looking at on 4WO website.
For OEM: the best is style87 on the E53 body, style168 and style177 share 2nd spots. If you're on tight budget, there are replicas available.
However they are too commonly seen so I went aftermarket with HRE 648R.

I'm more a traditionalist. See bmwstylewheels dot com for the OEM options. You don't say what your existing wheels are, or your goals. If you are upsizing for appearance sake, and you are prepared for the cost of more expensive/staggered tires, suggest you watch your local Craigs' List for sales of the larger OEM wheels, and save your $$$ for replacing tires and other maintenance costs. Otherwise, strictly a question of taste.

Thank you for replying guys. After checking so many wheel options and considering the cost, I might just go with the oem. About the replica ones, does anyone have good experience with them?

IIRC, some members on here have rep style177. They are not as active now to chime in.

My replica 168's cost 1/2 the price of new, didn't require any refinishing (try finding a mint, uncurbed set of staggered BMW 20's, its not easy), and look 98% the part, and I paid $1700 with Toyo tires mounted and balanced and shipped from a seller in California.

No complaints at all.

for RB running rep wheels J/K
I have nothing against them anyway. I'm guilty of running rep wheels before too (not on my E53 however)

Gary I'll send you a PM

When I got the 168's almost 2 years ago now, my tires on the E53 were original, and SHOT, i mean dry rotted to all hell (stock 18" michelin energy tires). I was afraid I'd have a blowout on any given day, and I had already been searching for a month or two for a clean set of 168's or 87's for that matter. If I wasn't driving on tires that made me fear for mine or my girlfriend at the time (pre-wife) safety I would have probably taken my time in the search.

All I was turning up on CL and ebay were a bunch of jokers who were selling either used sets of wheels with mismatched and/or summer tires (I wanted all seasons, and I didn't want used tires bc who knows how old they were), or they were selling wheels which were curbed, dinged up etc, and demanding price premium for them, since they are the 2 most desired E53 wheels.

Then there is the shipping of used wheels, none of these guys are cheap, most on ebay are asking 200 or so (the salvage yard guys), and then when they got to my house I'd have to send them out for refinishing.

As everyone knows I'm extremely OCD about cleanliness and the added couple lb's per corner of replicas on my 3.0 is not going to make much of a difference, I don't drive my SAV for performance, its all about driving pleasure, and the look of the 20's give me the aesthetic pleasure as well.

I found a seller selling packages of 168 replicas on ebay mounted and balanced, it was 1550 for a package with Atturo tires, 1700 for Toyo Proxes Tires, and 2100 for Conti DWS tires. I chose the Toyos and have been extremely pleased with the ride and the aggressive tread pattern, and I run my 20's year round (sold my Style 69 on CL for 400 bucks).

EDIT: the seller I bought my wheels from is Wheel Tech Tuning on ebay, it looks like they don't have packages with 168's for sale anymore though.

items in Wheel Tech Tuning store on eBay!
