OEM Aspherical Mirrors Versus Stock

Just got around to installing the OEM Aspherical Mirrors that replaced the stock.
Got the nice wide view.

Got to get used to the magnification range. Seems like the objects are alot closer compared to the non aspherical, so I should allow a extra foot. I don't have alot of seat time - just swapped them today...

Let me hear it fellow Aspherical Mirror Users

I've had mine for a year and love them. Does take a little getting use to but really helps that blind spot. You have to learn to adjust your mirrors to now take advantage of the wider coverage.

Bought mine when I bought the X as I had rust spot special mirrors on there LOL

Been loving them ever since, takes a sec to get used to but I love the extra vision.

I thought they were a standard BMW item fitted at factory ? The US spec cars are possibly different from the Aus spec vehicles.Mine are also light sensitive so as when a car comes up from behind they automatically dull the lights of the approaching car.

You are correct. US Spec have writing on the passenger side "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear." They do not have the field of view that the aspheric ones do.

With a Premium package E53, the US mirrors do dim with the light sensor on the rear view mirror. They are also heated.

What started this, was my Drivers Side heated was not working. Which, is huge, especially in the dewey morning/evening. It's quite noticable when you can see the passenger mirror but the drivers is all misty...Hence, the upgrade.

On the new asphericals, they should have the writing "Objects in mirror are MUCH closer than they appear with these than the standard". I might have cut it a bit too close this morning, but now I know I'm adding a extra foot closer than normal..

interesting experience. I find that the view is so improved I am better able to navigate traffic. I can more readily see where I am in relation to other cars-especially those behind me. I have not noticed that a car is closer than I expected.

I've only had about 1 hr seat time at most. When changing lanes, that's when I realized they were closer to me than I had expected. Hence, the statement. I guess it just needs acclimation. Here's hoping the DS heat works when I head out tonight
