Status update and next to do's

Hi guys,

Finally got the X5 back. Had a lot done, but there is still some work to do.

Completed
- valley pan and gasket
- intake manifold gasket
- bank 1 valve cover and CCV cold weather update (ouch)
- valve cover gaskets
- top main coolant artery
- pile of seals, gaskets o-rings as part of above
- tensioner pulleys
- plugs
- coolant flush
- oil
- diff and transfer case fluids
- power steering lines and fluid

To Do
- transmission fluid/filter, reset (indy says needs new pan with filter, ECS has different kits, dealer says order all the parts separate - need to figure out)
- transfer case reset (need comm cable as the one I have for E36 won't work)
- brake flush (I won't let a shop touch my brakes, so I need the comm cable to cycle things properly)
- alignment check (I'll do manually - I have decent results with my track car, so why not with the X )
- debug the clunk in front end under sharp braking (everyone says it's fine, but I'm not buying it)
- hitch (need to hunt for an OE hitch and buy ECS wire kit)
- pile of trim and cosmetic nuances (going to a few wreckers to scour parts)

I'll probably start separate threads for some of the above To Do list.

Cheers.

Sounds like you spent quite a few bucks...which shop did the work for you? You just purchased the X correct? On Kijiji?

Yes, just got it last week, Kijiji. I looked at a lot, and I accepted the fact that all the high mileage ones would need the work done sooner or later. So I set my sights on one that was in good shape cosmetically, 2 sets of rims, private sale and a decent price (i.e. it leaked and I could negotiate a fair price because of it). I factored the kick in the nuts into the purchase. Past this point, it's all on me for the maintenance. My wife still thinks I'm nuts, but she loves the X already.

I had Bavarian Motors do the work up in Markham. Steve runs all the schools at Mosport. I needed someone I could trust in short order, so I tossed him the keys and he had at it. It was in for 4 days.

I plan to keep it for a while and can do the mechanical and software tweaks myself. It's a love/hate thing with the old BMWs. My E36 is the same.

Cheers.

Another small victory today too - the BMW flashlight is actually in the glove box. Doubt that it was ever used in the past 10 years. Tucked up nice in the top corner of the glovebox
