Odd Engine Noise

Sorry for the long post in advance

While enjoying my X on my way home from work, I jumped off the highway and rolled down my windows to enjoy this beautiful weather. When I came to a stop, I heard a squeaking noise and an off putting engine noise. I pulled over and lifted the hood to find that my engine sounded like a diesel. The noise is noticeable on the right front driver side of the truck (squeaking) and the engine sounds like a diesel. Car still drives and runs like normal, no check lights on.

My question is,

1)Will a bad water pump/belt (my thoughts on the squeaking noise) cause my engine to sound like this?

2)Possibly a bad DISA valve causing the noise?

3)Vanos rattle/timing chain guides going out?

The noise corresponds with the RPM's as if something along the belt was the culprit. But would this make my engine sounds like diesel? Oil levels check out at least.

the vannos would be a taping[rattle] noise,if it is a squeaking noise maybe the the tensioner or the belt it self.
How many miles?
I had the same X5.

Just hit the 140k mark. (10/01 prod) This new noise is making me hope I'm not sitting on a time bomb

Also the noise doesn't go away with engine warm up, consistent from cold to hot. I've noticed I gained a new vaccum leak prior to this as well. After high rpm (5k-7k) it almost sounds like a BOV release from turbo spool. Not high pitched but noticeable from the cabin, windows up. I'm not sure if this all correlates with each other...

Video please. The diesel noise makes me think chain guides. If so, you are risking throwing the chain every time you run the engine...
You don't have a DISA valve, that's only the 3.0's.
It could just be a pulley, I've definitely heard some noisy/grumbly idler/tensioner's before. That would explain the squeak.

I wouldn't worry about the squeak or whistle until the diesel sound is fixed. Hopefully it turns out to be the cause of the other two.

BMW 4.6iS engine noise - YouTube -sorry if its a rough video to hear

As soon as I started hearing the belt noise the ugly diesel sound came with it

I hope I dont have to dig into this puppy.

*NOTE* Also, I did get a new radiator about 1k ago, the old one burst. Is this maybe b/c of a compression problem relating to a bigger problem I need to address? Possibly the symptoms of the start to something?

I really appreciate your guys input to this problem

sounds like waterpump or a pulley issue. remove the fan and take off the serpentine belts and see if the noise goes away. Don't run it very long like that because you won't be circulating water. the diesel noise sounds like VANOS.

the color of the hose connector on the waterpump makes me think those are original radiator hoses? I'd be prepared to replace those soon also.
