New to the Outpost
New to the outpost and looking for some advise. Picked up a 2003 4.4i x5 with the sport package. Seems to pull pretty good, but I can't leave well enough alone. Who can right? already ordered some OE Type 87 Staggered 20" wheels for it and wanting to up the performance on it. So I am asking the experts, I know everyone has their own ideas, but has anyone here put the Alpina Supercharger and ECU in one of these?? What is the best way to drop the stance?? I hear rumor of Widebody kits?? Thanks in advance. Have a great day!! Bill |

I didn't know Alpina made a supercharger but if I were you I'd save the dough for maintenance on that 10 year old M62.
Wide body kit in my opinion is fairly ugly and expensive, I would just put front / rear 4.6iS diffusers and either retrofit rear flares and running boards and it would look much better than the wide body kit. Best stance drop if you have sport package with rear air bags is the H&R kit for lower springs and shortened links to drop about 1.5".

Hi Ricky Bobby, thanks for the response. The Alpina is the b7 model, not their supercharger I am sure, but their use on a 4.4.
And yes, i just did some searching and the widebody kits I see are not that great looking, I like the Widebody porsches so was thinking..... I will have to look for the 4.6 diffusers and flares. And thanks, I will look at the H&R springs and links. Apprecaite the reply |

Welcome!
How many miles on your new X5 and do you have maintenance records? It is important to know where you are to be able to choose the best route to get where you want to go. I have the H&R lowering kit with 87s and 17mm spacers. You can check out my photos if you want to see that look. For performance I would start with engine and transmission software. I went with Dinan and am very pleased. I agree with RickyBobby, suggesting the 4.6 route should be a good first consideration. If you get a chance would like to see a picture.

Thanks Bcredliner, I appreciate the response. I will take a look at your pics and I will try to get some asap.
Bought it from a dealer, so history is limited, 104,000 on the clock. had my mechanic check it out and he said it is a pretty good hot rod. Had a 525 M-sport Touring wagon before, so this should be a step up in the fun. How does the x5 handle with the H&R springs? Have a great day! Bill |

Hey if you have air suspension all arohnd you can lower it through coding.
The Alpina b7 supercharger is for the n62 unless you wanna swap the entire engine.... DInan may have something, maybe ess and active autowerke as well. Good job with the style 87!! There was a somewhat widebody kit called the factory aero kit: ![]() i like it, but its pretty rare. ![]() ![]() Check out 3dtuning.ru they have an e53 and most of the bumpers are real life examples that you can get. I personally like the hamman kit: http://www.3dtuning.com/ru/Tuning/Tuning/8?Mode=1

There's no 525 M-Sport (Limousin or Touring) in the US, only the sport pkg. The only M-Sport pkg available in the US is for the 2003 540i. I like the factory widebody kit from pezhos405 post above. It's very expensive though. ESS and VF Engineering make S/C kit for M62TU.

Thank you for all the replies.
The Wagon I had was the sport Package 525 a 2003, and it had the "M" logo on the steering wheel, i was told it was the M-Sport Package, not an M5 wagon. It was the e39 model. Can't wait for the type 87's to show up, the stock wheels and ride height leave quite a gap as you can see. |
