The sensor is not precise and only measures one side but the linings will be pretty thin on the red lite. "IF" that is the case you probably still have some drive time but better schedule the job.

Cheers for reply, i must have at most 1-2 mm meat left on pads..for sure will schedule replacement....am i correct in saying red light on means pad sensor also worn now needs replacing?

Correct. The sensor wears though and goes open circuit - so you need to replace it with the pads.

![]() So you have the pads and sensors on hand? Not keen to fit them yourself? It's not a difficult task, although you must take care as it IS brakes! Hard to screw it up but some folk seem to manage it though... ![]() ![]() In this part of the world, (and esp. in Aussie) mechanics are very reluctant to fit parts they do not supply themselves.

Same in the US. Distrust of the part source might the barrier, with so many counterfeit and just junky parts out there I can see that as a good reason. But probably it's the lost price mark-up.

For sure from their point of view I get it, but I had the parts, got brembo wear sensor and if I recall the pads are bendix or textar.... brought them over in cargo luggage when i was in the uk on a break....at end of the day no cheaper than if i had let mechanic order parts as am pretty sure the profit he loses by me bringing parts (that as a garage he gets at cheaper price) he will charge me extra in labour...this is what happened with the cast manifold i ordered it was cheap as chips from ebay and the cost to fit was I am sure higher than he would have charge had i bought part from him if you see what I mean ...anyhow they found me slot tomorrow a.m and thankfully garage in 10mins min walk from work

well took x5 to mechanic and got into a row with him after he told me it wont be done today, i asked him why the hell you tell me to bring it in today? i need car! he that said in the off chance another car is done earlier we can squeeze you in,otherwise next appointment is 14th july! i cant drive for another 2 weeks with that warning on i said, in the meantime he checked and said i need both front and rear pads (got em) and the discs/rotors too needed changing....! they have a lip on them i would say 2mm max.....and car has done some 108,000 miles and not been replaced....i asked if old rotors can be planed he said no.....anyway happy days.....pain the rear
anyhow worse case i will ask him to do fronts pads and discs, and stick on the new pads on the rear too and not change out the rotors at rear as I can't remember where I put the rear rotors....
