Black Out Grills

Hey Guys,

So the X5 is definitely progressing well. Working on a couple different things right now. I'm not sure If I want to black out the front grills, bumper mesh, and hood grills or if I want to leave them in the titanium finish. I attached a picture of it. I am going to replace the lower bumper mesh because it is missing a couple of pieces and its annoying to look at. If anyone has done this on a similarly colored X5 it would be greatly appreciated. Any feedback would also be appreciated. Stay tuned for a possible update this weekend.

Thanks Guys

Damn that looks pretty good. I'm thinking of doing the two on top of the hood as well where the washer nozzles are.

Yeah, dip it, then peel it off if you get tired of it or you dont like it.

That being said, titanium looks good with your color!

Plasti dip for the win lol I used it on my front grill too looks great but you have to take you time applying thin coats. The can version of plasti dip sometimes comes out a bit chunky which is why some people buy the plasti dip in the non-aresol version then use a recomended thinner and apply small thin coats then letting dry a bit at a time.

I plasti-dipped mine gunmetal (on silver). The front grilles have held up surprisingly well for the past year. The hood grilles, however, were a pain the the butt, and it's starting to bubble up pretty badly on the passenger side grille.

FYI - on the hood grills when you remove them to dip you may break some of the plastic clips that hold them in. The plastic gets brittle with age/weather. Same with some of the clips holding the windshield washer fluid tubes. The grill is actually 2 pieces. The top titanium piece and then a bottom black plastic leaf catcher piece. You may need new leaf catchers if your clips break when you remove to dip.

Go slowly when you remove the grills and hopefully nothing will break/snap on you. But, be prepared that you may need to buy new bottom pieces.

As others mentioned, this is reversible if you go with plasti dip so if you do not like it you can go back to titanium grills.

Good Luck!

it looks great the way it is. I have the same body color as yours but 3.0. I like the titanium gray combo. Sadly, I can't find Titanium plastidip....if anyone out there knows where I can get it...please let me know. I'm in SoCal, Newport Beach. I've tried Homedepot, they said must be a special order.
