Ski Box Or Photon Torpedo?
Check out my latest acquisition; landed in my garage just this afternoon!
Although it looks like the torpedo coffin in which Spock was sent off in The Wrath Of Khan, what it really is is a genuine BMW X5 rooftop ski box in glossy black. My sister & brother-in-law had an e53 X5 several years ago, traded it in on a Volvo something-or-other, but the box stayed in their garage. Now they are semi-retired and shedding excess gear in preparation for relocating to Arizona. It needs some cleaning, but is in very good shape overall, and comes with everything needed to mount it to the stock roof rails. The one thing that is missing is the special tool for tightening the clamps that hold it to the rails. The bolts have a funky head on them for security, and they couldn't find the tool that fits them. I'll check with the dealer to see if a replacement can be obtained, but if nothing else I should be able to replace the bolts that do the locking with a standard allen socket head or similar. It's designed for carrying skis, but I think it'll work well as a replacement for our aging Sears X-Cargo rooftop luggage pod. At least it'll look a far sight better.
