Question 2003 E53 - Photo - is this a vacuum tube?

Can anyone tell me what this tube is and is it supposed to be attached to anything?

I'd like to know too. I have one of those. Front of the engine compartment on the drivers side. It likes to grab your shirt-sleeves when working on the engine.

No, it's the breather for the front diff!

It's not suppose to attach to anything. It's there to equalize pressure in the diff so you don't blow out seals as it heats up.
