So about a month or so ago my vehicle was acting up so I immediately pulled over. I expected it was the timing chain guides from the symptoms and noise the vehicle was making. I got it towed to my house and the x5 sat there until warmer temps would come. We had a fairly nice day out today so I decided to drop the oil pan and look for answers. Low and behold there was plastic pieces in the pan and plastics pieces clogging the oil pump. So what do you guys think should I fix or should I junk?

If you have the ability to fix it, fix it. If you have to bring it in to get it fix, part/junk it.

if anybody wants any specific pictures while i tear down and fix let me know and Ill be glad to post them up. BTW its a 03 4.6is with 213000. I forgot to mention that in first post.

Sorry to hear of your problem.

I would think there is a step by step DIY of changing the timing guides but if there is not I feel sure it would be well received. I do know there is a new tool that makes the job easier and there is a current thread of member going through the 4.6 engine and transmission and much more. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-once-all.html

I had this on my 4.6. The repair was intensive but straight forward. I bought a new oil pick up pipe to be safe asi was not confident the old one could be cleared internally of all the plastic. Resetting the timing was also straightforward once we understood how top do it

If you need any break in oil or anything let me know! I recommend using our engine assembly lube as well.

well I got more time to work on it and I believe that Im going to have to take the heads off and make sure that all the plastic is gone cause my guides got pretty chewed up. Not to happy about it
