If you have a fault in the system, the light won't stay off with any reset tool.
I reset the airbag light in my old 3.0 with INPA. There was no fault code. It had the rear airbag unplug from factory with red stickers. I hook them up and use INPA to reset the light.

I accidently unplugged the side airbag when I was changing the window regulator on the front passenger side.

Can you explain this INPA process? This is new to me.

If that's all that triggered the air bag light, any airbag reset tool will do.
INPA is a BMW diagnostic tool. You can purchase the software and cable, and install it on a laptop. Search forum for sources (most buy from the guy in Latvia) You can read and clear any fault code on your SAV with it.

Ok. I will look into the inpa software and cable. Since the B800 will work, I will just go with that for now. Thanks

I have the B800. I have used it on E36s, 38, 39, 46, and now E53. Its a nice tool to have and easier to carry around than a laptop and accessories. If you have a local car club or even just a few local nuts, charge them 10 bucks to reset it and the tool will pay for itself. It comes with a good instruction manual and a codes table so you not only can reset it, but you can also see what set it off.

I did the exact same thing, and three independents with good dx computers could not reset it. Light goes out but comes back on in 10 seconds. I've yet to take it to a dealer, hoping to find a cheaper method to reset it.
let me know if it works..permanently. traveldad |
