outer cv boot cover - use hoseclip 2 secure? or not?

Hi eveyone, sorry to post on a weekend, cut a long story short I noticed some crud in the front wheel arch today maybe a table spoon full of it.Checked the the cv boot that I had replaced a year ago, & at one end I saw a build up of the black grease used in the cv boot for lubrication(please see last pci)! Crap I thought it cannot have split in under a year! thankgod it hadn't

The clamp shown in the red circle is on but loose enough to allow the boot to move from left to right as shown in the pics the 2 pics, and for the life of me i cannot figure out how to tighten it up so that the teeth in the clip move to the next 'rung' so as to tighten it to the max....anybody have any idea if a hose clamp will work? or how to tighten the exisiting clamp or if the same type of clamps can be purchased and put on without the need for the whole boot to come off?

Also is the 2-3 table spoons max of lubricant i lost a cause for concern (guess it all depends on how much my mechanic filled the boot wit in the first place, but lets guess that he filled the boot) ANY tips much appreciated.....
