e53

Hi everyone. It has been at least 4 years since my e39 has gone and now I am back with e53. In the mean time it was Audi TDI.

I need help with two things:

1. having Audi I was use to VCDS and £10 cable of ebay which help me with diagnosing all possible faults. Is there anything similar for BMW and what cable/software to get

2. The car I bought came with panoramic roof faulty. Curtain only could be moved back and forward. I've tried to initialise it by pressing up and holding button but made it worse. The curtain split for an inch and it all stopped. Now it will not move either way. As per youtube video I've removed the interior light but there is only a white control module there - no motor. Fuse is OK and I can hear control module click when roof control is pressed. Any advice welcomed. This is why I think the diagnostic tool will help.

Beside that looking for tutorial on how to replace a mirror glass (burned out) and fix rear parking sensor - intermittent.

update: got this now on ebay 251516954596 - hope it will help. Any advice still welcome

Thanks

Search for INPA/EDIABAS on the forum. There should be info on where to get cable an software from a seller in Latvia.

you should remove the motion sensor, not the lights... use an old credit card, or a flat blade screwdriver wrapped in cloth to remove the motion sensor, and then there is the hole that leads to manual operation of the sunroof motor...

Pretty sure the people on this forum have been buying from this guy on ebay.

diyfanatiq on eBay

If you plan to get into coding those cables should work fine with an e53 if you plan on using the cable for other projects or new cars they recommend this one on this forum.

Motor fitted yesterday. I've opened sunroof manually first and found out that back end is faulty. Done the mod and presto – it all works now minus back panel!

1. glow plug controller somewhere on the engine.
2. steering wheel pealing off – need to respray it and work out how to take it off
3. not sure if it is a fault but when breaking just before vehicle stops the auto gearbox engages gear. Feels like nudge in last moment before stop. No faults shown in INPA

is your car a 5speed? 5 speeds are notorious for this behaviour. My e39 did the same thing. It was quite bad at first when I bought the car. I found that it wouldn't do it if it was in DS though, so maybe try that? I found that disconnecting the battery for a few hours must have reset the ecu and improved it markedly.

To refurbish the steering wheel I used the following:
Deluxe Leather Repair and Recolor Kit

Within the following DIY you will find instructions to remove steering wheel.
