Question Need Help!!! low idle surging, loss of power in the morning.

Hey guys I'm new here and I need some help. My problem. Happens only in the morning at first start up in my 2006 x5 3.0 I'll go and start it up first thing in the morning. It idles fine and drives good. But then just before it gets up to temp usually the first light I stop at the idle starts to surge from 500 to about the point it's about to stall but doesn't and it just keeps surging. When I hit the pedal I notice the engine is alot louder and missing power sort of chugging along. When I pull over to shut it off and restart it the idle stops surging and power slowly comes back and after a few miles everything is all good again for the rest of the day! I've checked the icv, maf, and the disa and hoses going into TB. The SES light is on I'll get the codes later but in the mean time anyone have any ideas ???

Just a quick note. This didn't just suddenly happen. First I noticed a very slight stumble at idle a couple months back that set of the SES then stumble disappeared and SES eventually turned off but kept happening up until this point and SES is now always lit.

Your issue could be one of many potential causes and difficult to troubleshoot. I would move reading the OBC for error codes to the top of a list with nothing else on the list. It will be the most expeditious and least costly route in the long run.

Also read up on (google) BMW cold idle jerks. Could be bad vanos seals, but that would not cause the SES light to come on.

There should also be an idle control valve (easy to pull and clean) that could be giving you problems also, and that could possibly throw a light.

Code will tell you why you have an SES light on, for now it just a WAG ( Wild Ass Guess) on anyone part.

It would have been nice if you could have pulled the code so that people could use the fix if they have a similar code.
