Is it possible to have the running lights (side lights/angel eyes) on constantly?

BMW 2004 3.0d facelift with auto HID headlights.
When the switch is in auto mode is it possible to have the running lights on constantly and the just the headlights to come on/off when it gets too dark?..
Thanks.

Not to hi-jack your thread but, i have the Romanian diagnostic kit and i was wondering if anyone knows how to code or program my car so that the AEs are the only things running as DRL, i live in Canada so DRLs are a must and i hate the way the high beams on low voltage look during the day, ive had this truck for 5 years now and it still bugs me to this day lol.
If the info of my car makes any difference, it is a 2004 (face lift) 4.4 sport with auto headlights

Can anyone point me in the right direction to the software required to do this or is it dealer only?..
I have the usual BMW scanner which is easy enough to use but have got a bit overwhelmed with the NCS/INPA software.. is this what I need?.. a link to the right thread for the right software would be good..
Thanks.

For what I know, there is no possibility of running only angel eyes with the light switch in Auto mode. I have tried several coding options, but none of them lets the angel eyes stay on in the daytime without the low beams being on at the same time.
On my car I've enabled the US-running lights (front blinker) and angel eyes, but I have to have the switch in the park light position for them to be on without low beams.
If you want to use your angel eyes as DRLs, your best option is really to hardwire them to get power when ignition is on.

I've been through BMW Scanner 1.4.0, SSS Progman and NCS Expert without any luck. I've just settled with having to turn the switch one step to the left, after starting the car.
There is of course a possibility that I might have missed something in the coding files, but I think I've been through practically all of the different settings.

As for coding equipment, in addition to the BMW Scanner 1.4.0, I bought this kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Diagnost...item43c8ee44ed
Had to solder one of the wires inside tho, as it had broke off during shipping. But that was not really a problem.
And you probably won't need the the round ADS-adapter. They have kits without it. I had to have it, as I'm working on older cars without OBD2 as well.
It has a really easy one-click installer on 2 discs in the kit. All the programs was installed and ready for use in about an hour.

Rolfi, i have the pretty much exact same kit that you posted a link to:BMW DIAG KIT
The cable that came with mine did not require any soldering and i have been diagnosing trouble codes using inpa, but thats pretty much the only program out of the bunch that i know how to use lol.

Is there anyway you can post instructions on how to enable US running lights?
That sounds like a pretty good alternative. Im pretty sure the kit that i have comes with the programs you mentioned.

You can use SSS Progman for that. I don't have any instructions, and I can't take screenshots to show you, as my battery is nearly dead. But SSS is almost as easy as BMW Scanner 1.4.0/PA Soft. It's just a little slower.
It's all about ticking/unticking boxes.
I didn't need instructions the first time I used it. It's pretty self explanatory.

Rolfi... thanks for your reply.
I already have this BMW Scanner 2.01 2.0.1 for BMW Cars /Scanner Diagnose Tool Free Ship | eBay
I just don't have the other software.
Will this work with the SSS & NCS and if so do you know where I can get the software?
Thanks.

Does the BMW Scanner 2.0.1 work with the E53? I thought the 2.0.1 was for the newer generation only, and the only one working with the E53 was the 1.4.0?

The BMW Scanner doesn't work with INPA, SSS, NCS etc. You need a EDIABAS cable for that. Like the one I linked to. Be sure to get one which has all the programs in the kit.

I sat for hours trying to get everything to work when installing it manually, but it still didn't work properly. With the one click installer I got in the kit, everything was up and running perfectly within an hour. I would absolutely recommend going that route, instead of the downloading and manual installation
