Driverside upper cam tensioner stuck

Found this when r/r of my upper timing cover gaskets. Started to get a pretty nasty leak on the corner above the alternator. Should have done these when I did the vcgs recently. But I did find a nasty problem. Slack in the driver side vanos can chain from the camshaft upper tensioner. See video...M62b44tu vanos timing chain loose: M62b44tu vanos timing chain loose - YouTube

Will the tensioner unstick itself? I tried to budge the tension but seems seized.

What I would really be interested in is whether this tensioner can be replaced with the timing gear in place? Did not want to have to dive into doing chain guides and such. If possible to replace should I still get the trestle and vanos can lock tools?
