you just said, that your battery is dead - it is not just dead, it will NOT hold the charge, and the car clearly will NOT run off alternator (I have learned that myself). It needs a battery with sustained voltage and capacity in order to continue to run...

if you will continue trying to charge the battery, start the car, and have it stall on you - you will eventually have some codes in the system, and might end up with fried electronics...

get a new battery, take it from there

even another bimmer's alternator rated at 180A can't sustain full operation of two vehicles and the demand of two cars - years ago my sis-in-law had a flat battery in her E36, and when i finally showed up in my E34, the three honda civics could NOT get a jump to her car... you should see the faces of the 17-year old boys when they tried to impress her (she was 17 at the time) and their juiced up cars were not up to par...

E34 had no problems starting the E36 - that is when i learned about some weird wiring patterns in the bimmers...

what engine do you have?

the EWS is the alarm module that tells the engine to crank or not to crank... in super simplified terms... not sure if this is your case though...

if yours is a I-6, there might be an issue with the Idle Control Valve (ICV) - back in the old day a temporary remedy was, to rev the engine to the RED line a couple of times and the engine would idle fine for a week or two... ultimately, the ICV would need to be replaced...

Naturally, if you have a V8 - i am not sure what can cause this...
