Thumbs up E53 Trunk Lid Lock

Back Ground:

Body shop notified me that they are waiting for the adjuster to approve the order of a new trunk door latch, estimated price @ 135.37

When I picked up my vehicle, I checked the invoice it was priced @ 355.40, this got me curious [ did they found more damage(s)?]

Realoem (Item #15): RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i TRUNK LID/REAR WINDOW

I looked up part# 51248408492 @ 135.37 - Trunk lid lock, top. Then compared with part# 51247111008 @ 355.40 - Servo lock upper trunk lid.

Thanks to Qsilver7, The part# 51247111008 deprecates part# 51248408492 - all e53 starting from 10/2003 (re-attached the images too)

"There's some type of change that took place sometime around the face lift. Go back to the part database and do a part nbr search for each part nbr...take note that one nbr is for the 3.0/4.4/4.6is with the M54/M62 engines...and the other nbr is for the 3.0/4.4/4.8is with the M54 & N62 engines...plus a date of 10/2003 in the FROM column.

The SCA (soft close actuator) changed at the 10/2003 mfg date:"

$350 was what i paid for my locking mechanism in 2004 X5. (I am guessing but it could be because this model has "self locking" - you just close it to touch and mechanism does the rest? ?
They likely found that your car needs "new and improved" (and more expensive) locking mechanism...
