scatched windscreen

hi all, in all my years of motoring I never took to cleaning a car windscreen with a dish sponge....but did on the x5 and noticed that I scratched the windscreen! numerous hairline scatches only visible in certain light conditions but scracthes are visible and annoying as they catch the light.....is there any off the shelf product to reduce these?kicking myself for doing this damage....pretty sure scouring sponge must have had specks of sand in it causing the damage...called a local windscreen chip repair company and they said they don't do the repairs anymore but to take it round to see if it can be polished out...

ps tried to take pictures but the scratches dont appear in photos

Try this product:

CarPro Ceriglass Glass Polish, windshield polish, water spot remover

Ceriglass needs to be used with the CarPro Rayon glass polishing pads as well to work effectively as far as removing scratches. You could use it with foam or by hand but you won't get as much cut out of it.

If your screen is also pitted it may be worth looking Into just getting it replaced with a comfort glass screen (if you don't already have one).

When mine cracks or breaks ill be doing this.


But in the meantime yeah get the ceriglass and use a machine, by hand you wont do anything

Or there's the old BMW "scratched windshield" fixer Bon AMI/1886 that's been around since the 1880s...and was very popular back "in-the-day" before all these modern products...for cleaning up BMW's "soft" glass windshields that had been blasted & pocked with road debris etc.

It contains its trademark "feldspar and limestone" as gentle, effective abrasives...and has been effective for use on glass (especially boats). You can google Bon Ami 1886 to get more information about this old time product and use on glass etc...and perhaps where it can be purchased.

Griot's makes a glass polish that might help. And you could try contacting their customer service and see what they recommend.

Thats more for water spots. If you are looking to remove scratches you need Cerium Oxide (diamonds in a bottle), or try the Bon Ami.

Most glass polishes don't have the abrasive quantity needed to remove scratches, Ceriglass is the first I've seen, but again, you need the proper pads in conjunction with it.

thanks for all the great feedback , ok don't kick me for trying what I have tried but i took to the scratches with t-cut and cotton cloth and alot of elbow grease....couldn't really tell it helped as the scratches are only visible when the sun is at a certain angle.....so will report back later....comfort glass? you mean the one with so called sun protection? already got that installed......again thanks to all who replied
