Hi all,
I recently installed some monitors for the rear seats of my 4.8is. I wanted to integrate the monitors with the TV tuner module, so that I can control the content on the rear screens from the front including USB media (my modified TV Tuner module has USB media support) and digital TV, as well as being able to feed a DVD from the rear screens into the front.
To do so required connecting to the AV In/Out socket at the rear of the centre console - an item which looks to have caused much confusion as to its intent and function. The part number for this socket is 8368346
I was not content with using 3.2 mm jacks to do so, as the install would not look well integrated. Instead, I have made up a custom loom to plug that replaces the function of the 3.2 mm socket, but allows for a hidden connection to standard AV RCA connections.
I could not find a pin out of the connector at the rear of the socket, so I produced my own. The pins are labelled as viewed from the rear of the module, and the numbers correspond to the numbers moulded into the plastic casing:
I hope that this is of use to someone looking to perform a similar install.
To construct the connector/loom I used some RCA cables/connectors (3 x male 3 x female, and 40 pin dual in-line jumper cut down to 10 pins. I also set the soldered connections in hot glue for strain relief and mechanical support.
This fit the stock loom perfectly with some cloth loom tape added over the connectors for added security.
