This will be the 3rd time writing this but...an 6/'06 4.8is should have the newer TCU w/BMW ASSIST...thus it doesn't require the "pairing button"...you should follow the instructions listed in posts #4 & #8.

The OP's X5 is automatically in pairing mode for 2 minutes once the ignition is turned to position 1 or 2. During this time, he should turn on his phone and search for BT devices...he should then see "BMW 12345" (except the last 5 digits of his X's VIN should proceed BMW instead of 12345)...select BMW 12345, then proceed to follow the instructions of entering the Pass Key code etc.

If this is confusing...as mentioned in post #4...the X5 w/premium pkg and BMW Assit...came with the newer TCU module which has built in circuitry to call for help (Assist)...whereas the instruction you followed & linked us to was for the older ULF module (Bluetooth).

If you have the BMW ASSIST (SOS) button in your headliner...then you should follow the instructions in post #4 & #8.

Just a small update:

Confirmed with 3 different phones, after switching to kl15 or klR there is no bluetooth broadcast for bmwXXXXX when doing a bluetooth scan with the phones. None of the phones were able to find it when scanning for BT connections. Seems to be an issue on the vehicle side. Time to pull out Rheingold I suppose....

UPDATE:
