My new-to-me 4.8is

My 8 month search for a lower mile 05/06 4.8is in LeMans Blue came to an end this past Tuesday after flying, with my wife, to Richmond, VA for final inspection and deal transaction. We then spent 2.5 days driving some amazing and fun roads on our 800 mile trek back to South Bend, IN.

This was the expired ebay listing that started the ball rolling: 2006 BMW x5 4 8IS Le Mans Blue | eBay

My first in person look at her
Shortly after a nasty thunderstorm on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Another shot from the Blue Ridge Parkway
One of the fun roads in WV
Total trip MPG was 19.4! (trip miles not accurate as I accidentally deleted the first leg of the trip)
Resting beside her older less cool sibling ;-)

TO-DO List:
  • To change the trans fluid or not ... seems to be much debate on this topic
  • Change all the other fluids except oil which was just done.
  • Exhaust note not loud enough :-)
  • Have rear trunk gate and bumper painted
  • Repair road rash on the rims or plasti-dip them? or find another set and keep these for winter tires. This will be my daily driver.
  • Install OEM hitch
  • Play music from my iPhone
  • Rear tires need replaced at some point
  • Figure out how to keep the air ride at it's lowest setting all the time. I recall seeing some software mentioned before for tweaking this and other parameters?
  • Nav screen missing pixels. I just fixed the MID display on my 01 X5 so hopefully this is a similar job.
  • Running boards? Not sure what's involved with this yet.
  • CAI since there's a crack in the OEM airbox already.
Anyways ... I'm excited to finally have a 4.8is! Crossing my fingers it doesn't become a maintenance PITA like I've seen some on here lament.

That's pretty much what I paid for mine but with 92k miles
Nice buy and welcome to the leMansBlue clan haha
Yes please do change the tranny oil and filter ZF Lifeguard6 and BMW filter
You can install aux cable for playing music thru the iPhone
Eisenmann race for loud exhaust
Ride height can be set to the lowest but the ride will probably be too bumpy
there's a thread for pretty much everything on this forum..
Enjoy and congrats on your new purchase!

Btw how do you like the sport seats? ?pretty comfortable for long drive?
I love my comfort seats just curious how the sports in the E53 behave
The sports in my e39 were killing my back

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Running boards will run you $750.

An AFE cai will run you about 350-400.

You can code the ride height lower via software.

Beautiful Lemans, a cheap way to get a louder note is to delete the resonator and install an X-pipe.

I've not sat in the comfort seats so I have no comparison other than hearing people rave about them. I was hoping to get a 4.8is with them, but decided lower miles trumped some other "would like" features.

I thought the seats were good and my wife commented the same. Only time I could really start to feel uncomfortable was the last 2hrs of an 11hr drive. I just kept adjusting the seat and lumbar positions until it felt better.

I also wish the seats were ventilated like a couple of the 7 series I've test driven in the past to keep your butt and back cool :-)
