4.6iS gearbox query

Hi, an intro first as I think this is my first post. I've lurked here on and off as several projects on my E39 have involved E53 parts and mods. I own a 2002 B10 V8S, which strictly speaking is not an X5! But it does have various parts in common.

For example the engine and gearbox are very similar, so similar in fact that I am currently using a gearbox computer (EGS) from a 4.6iS to help me diagnose a gearbox problem I have on my B10. I've swapped the Alpina specific EGS out and put the BMW 4.6iS one in and I want to check whether or not my gearbox is now behaving like a 4.6iS gearbox should.

so.

In manual mode, the gearbox will shift down itself to 3rd, and if I want to put it in 2nd or 1st I need to manually downshift myself, is that normal? I'm assuming it is.

In "D" the gearbox will drop into 1st at a standstill. This seems wrong to me, I was expecting it to only drop into 2nd at a standstill, ie not drop all the way into 1st at standstill unless I really boot it off the lights. So what I was expecting was that as I come to a stop the gearbox will shift down into 2nd, and if I pull off normally it would pull off in 2nd and change up gradually. However if I opted for a quick takeoff, it would shift into 1st when I put my foot down from standstill.

What is normal for a 4.6iS?

thanks in advance!

Drew
