Pm davintosh. He and I made a tool to pull the cv axle back in last year , it's tough without it.
Some people take a block of wood over the hub and hammer like Thor to get it through but I'm not the biggest fan of that

Or you can grind down an axles nut and weld it to an impact socket so it can be threaded inside the hub. I'm on my phone but I will post a pic tomorrow

I have used a block of wood and hammer it before, zero issues.
What helps is get a wire brush and clean the axle splines well, then apply some grease on the splines. I made my own tool using a socket and the 36-mm nut, see thread #42 below: DIY: 1998 528i REAR Bearing the Easy Way! - Page 2 - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums
