Help with potential NAV retrofit

I'm hoping for some assistance with a question.

I've located a Mk3 navigation computer at the right price, and was wondering if anyone could tell me whether it is a direct plug-in fit for my vehicle?

I have a 2006 e53 (last digits of VIN available if required).

I understand that I will require the GPS antenna and nav computer brackets as well (the breaker will supply these for minimal cost).

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you consider replacing the vehicle's main wiring harness "plug and play" then yes, it is. In reality, it is a pretty complex retrofit. Here is Joe Puma's write-up when he did this a number of years ago.

My 2 cents, if you are going to go to all the trouble to do this then get the Mk4. Don't waste your time with the Mk3.

Thanks mate, that was the info I was after. I'm far from an expert on these things, and wasn't aware of the intrinsic differences between the Mk3 and the Mk4.

Will keep my eye out for a Mk4

Again, appreciate your speedy response mate.

Mk3 is CD based and is much much slower than the Mk4, which is DVD based.

In addition, the Mk3 is much more susceptible to fatal (and unrecoverable) crashes with a power surge or performing a software update that goes bad. The Mk4 is the way to go.

Or you could install a Dynavin n6..plug and play without having to tear down the interior..

I was only looking at the nav computer because it was the right price.

I dunno much about the dynavin units, and not sure of their degree of complete integration (eg on board computer, steering wheel controls etc) as I haven't really investigated them.

It's the best one out there in my opinion
On board comp , steering wheel controls , pdc , even works with DSP with cars that didint come equipped with nav from the factory..way better than any mk4 nav
Do a search you'll see what it can do
Dynavin N6
