Navigation back light (weird issue)

My nav screen was displaying a dim back light at all times. Got the system into service mode and adjusted the brightness/contrast up. Worked perfectly...until the next day. During daylight driving, the screen went back to dim. However, at night the screen is full bright.
Any ideas?

I notice this too but with mine it would be dim for about the first 2 minutes after starting the car for the day

When it's dim, are you able to adjust brightness? It's crazy. Mine has no control in the daytime and yet at night functions perfectly!

Just a thought...make sure the photocell that adjusts for ambient lighting isn't covered. It's a small dot along the bottom of the screen's trim...about midway between the left/right sides.

Also check under settings to see if there's something for day/night...I might be confusing this feature with the older 4:3 Nav monitors, though.

Qsilver7,
No day/night on this system.

For giggles, I got back into service mode and turned the contrast down to -10. When I looked at my brightness setting...it was turned down all the way. As I increased brightness, the screen lit up to an acceptable level for daytime driving. However, I turned the vehicle off and back on and it went right back to a dim screen as the brightness setting was all the way down again. This time when I adjusted the brightness, it didn't work. Went back in to service mode and found my contrast still set @ -10.
I'm guessing there's really nothing I can do externally for correcting this issue.

Are you turning the radio off (pressing the left knob) before turning the ignition off? If not...try it again, but this time...turn the radio off first (press the left knob)...instead of turning the ignition off.

I only say that because the instructions for the radio's service mode says that's how you save the changes...perhaps the Nav's service mode requires the same step.

Qsilver7,
Thanks for the info!!! I'll give it a shot today and report back. I was simply turning the ignition off as you suspected.

I hope it works...you just never know...sometimes it's just a simple step that interrupts success.
