Not clear about the replacement batteries. When you took the battery back did they test it and replace it because it was defective?

Yes, on both occasions, the Autozone clerk tested the batteries and they were completely dead. The clerk was baffled since these are top-of-the-line AGM batteries that they carry. Could be the batteries were defective, but 2 in a row is quite a coincidence. I'm on the 3rd one now and I'm asking my wife to drive it daily, even if just around the block, to keep a constant charge. Funny Catch-22 story here, I stopped driving the X5 to work because I'm afraid of getting stranded on the highway. So now, even without driving it, my X5 has a way to screw over.

Dead is different than defective. I would have the battery load tested before I would start troubleshooting a battery drain. Did they load test your original battery to verify it was bad?
