Squeaky rear seat

2005 X5 3.0i sports package

I'm hearing annoying squeaky noise from the rear seat. I would like to spray some WD40 but I don't know where. Can someone tell me where to look first?

I'd probably spray some Teflon since its a slightly better lubricant and longer lasting than WD40.

Why not have someone drive the X and you ride in the trunk so you can source the squeak?

WD40 is not a lubricant. It will dry out. Use either lithium grease or silicone grease.

Since we can't "hear" the sound...try to differentiate between a metallic sound vs a sound that may be coming from the leather sections rubbing against each other...or something occurring in the cargo area.

If you haven't "dressed" the leather in a while...it can make sounds as the two sections rub together or where it may touch something near the doors. Lower & raise the rear seats to see if you can replicate the sound...if you hear it...then find a leather lubricant.

Same thing for if the sound is coming from the cargo area...try lifting and moving stuff (especially if you have the roll out cargo floor...which are known to squeak etc) to see if you can find the source of the annoying sound.

Good luck.
