E70

Can't believe Search won't find E70, but it didn't.
I'm looking at a 2011 E70 w/pretty good miles, about 42k. Private seller.

What do my fellow E53 guys think of the E70? I always told my wife I can't afford to maintain two X5s, but...how do they compare for the do-it-yourselfer?

Do they still have CCV problems, oil filter adapter leaks, rubber bushes that come apart, etc?

Thanks,
Bill

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
They have a ton of other problems that require computer diagnosis lol. Probably the windshield wipers have their own module.

Jk. All jokes aside I wouldn't mind an LCI m sport E70 diesel but I wouldn't get rid of my E53 anytime soon for one.

It's all about "the devil you know" vs the unknown. I've had my E53 2.5 years though, some who have owned since new or for more amount of time might be ready for "something newer"

I have a 2013 e70 X5 5.0i xDrive pretty well equipped. It has given me no problems in 44k miles but it is still young.

The newer ones definitely have a better interface (iDrive) and screen, navigation, etc. It also feels a bit less substantial, some might say tinny.

For DIY it depends on how brave you are, and what tools and diagnostics you have. Mine is still under warranty so I don't touch it - at least not for another 6k miles. Not sure I ever will, given the low cost of indy service in my area.

I've owned two E53's and I currently own an E70. I loved my E53's and don't find the driving experience to be significantly different with the E70. I bought the E70 as I wanted a later model vehicle with more of the bells and whistles.

From a maintenance / repair perspective I really can't speak. My E70 just broke 50K miles and, aside from an unusual seal leak in the front drive train, it has been trouble free. However I don't do any maintenance / repair myself...I have my indy mechanic do it. He states the E70 model isn't any more difficult to work on than the E53 though he specializes in BMW's and therefore has all the necessary equipment to work on them.

The one thing I really miss from my E53 is the sunglasses compartment...I know...silly.

I heard that they are not as DIY friendly as the E53. Maybe they are still too new for the DIYers to catch up.
For me, the only worthy E70 is the X5M if I ever decide to upgrade. Must be the LCI model though.

I can't speak to the DIY but given they have more bells and whistles it stands to reason those additional things can result in a the need for more specialized equipment.

My favorite is the 4.8iS...great vehicle.

OP wants to obtain opinions of the E70 from E53 owners.

That is the best reason to look in the E70 forum. Posters there may have owned both. Posters in the E53 forum are less likely to have actual experience with the E70 IMO

Thx everyone for the feedback. The Craigslist seller has gone silent - I'm having my doubts about the legitimacy of this deal.
Would not replace the E53 - this would be an addition to the ever-growing fleet.
