X5 vs GLK 350

Here's my thinking on our new (hers)
2014 GLK...smoother softer riding...complicated controls...small o/s mirrors (gas mileage not yet determined) Nav. worse than the Garmin I use in the X5 and 10x the price, b/u camera is nice
2006 X5 (3.0) stiffer (sport package) more "solid" feeling, no "fussy" non user friendly controls (shitty gas mileage) more comfy seats
The GLK seems to be bigger than an X3 and almost X5 in size ....
We only have the M/B 5 weeks and 1000 miles, so what else will I notice?
I actually mostly drive my Z3, but now that the X5 is off wife use, I am enjoying it till it gets sold...

Sorry, we dont talk of that other brand here.

Just kidding! That's interesting to know...from the outside my first impression was the GLK was small.

How is the driving dynamics between the two? Acceleration, stability at speed, in the twisties, stuff like that?

The Benz is my wife's car, as was the X5 before...I drive it only when we go somewhere together.
I am using the X5 now till I sell it, honestly I like the BMW better, it is more of a drivers car (truck) the Benz is nice..it will be interesting to see how the Benz feels in 3 years vs the 8 year old X5...but will I remember?
It seems that the Benz is getting much better gas mileage, the X5 is only getting about 15 in local driving...and the Benz seems like 19 - 20 same use, probably get better in a few k miles...also it's a rear drive only.

I just checked reviews of the GLK. 0-60 in less than 6 sec, nice!

Car and Driver says it handles pretty well too.

i dont see the point of the GLK, X1, RAV4, and others in this category...especially since some of them dont even give you the AWD/room that full size SUV/SAV give you..theyre pointless
ofcourse others will disagree

I guess it's just the evolution of the sport utility vehicle market.

I personally like it that the automakers are thinking out of the box.

The X5 itself was a mover and a shaker in this regard.

Some Jeep offroaders say the same thing about the X5 lol!

Daka, my wife drives the ML350 bluetec diesel. The ML is more the direct comparator to the X5s. I love the diesel, though the modern diesel emissions stuff is a PITA and I don't doubt will be a maintenance issue as the vehicle ages [only 50k on it to date]. My X5 is much 'lighter on its feet' and much more fun to drive, but I would love to have that diesel torque. The ML, like most newer vehicles, has way too many electronic gimmicks for my taste. The backup camera in the nav screen is very nice, though. BTW, she gets may 26+ mpg in mixed driving/commuting.

As I mentioned the lease on the GLK was a really good deal.
As far as the size, I can count on one hand the number of time we (she) had more than one other person in the car..back seat, the dog uses it.
As for AWD, this is a FLORIDA car...so ??
Before the X5 I had a 99 528iT, probably one of the nicest cars I ever owned, (and I've had a lot of cars in my 65+ years of driving) but we did not like the look of the next generation Tourings and now it seems that the only "High end" wagon is the M/B, I looked at that, but it's absolutely outrageously priced...so the GLK fit the bill
What will it be in 3 years?? Who knows, GLK goes back, another one?
When you get right down to it....much as I hate to admit....cars are just a tool, to get you go from place to place ....we,... ME INCLUDED are a bunch of car snobs...
