P0735: Gear 5 Incorrect Ratio

P0735: Gear 5 Incorrect Ratio: 2003 3.0i with 171,200 miles

Has anyone had any experience with this code?

Three days ago was on the high way and bout 75 or 80 mph X5 went into "trans failsafe mode" pulled over, stop and shut the engine off waited about 30 seconds and restarted no fail-safe. I took secondary roads home and no more issue.

then this afternoon was going 50 let off the accelerator then the SES light and the "TFS mode" again. used the torque app and code reader and it gave me this code.

any insight to this would be great.

Just looking to the group if anyone has encountered this before, and which direction provided the fix.

I will start with checking the fluid level the move to a new transmission filter and a fluid fill.

Torque can not read the EGS module so whatever DTC is causing the TFS you will need to get a real BMW scanner to find out what the problem is.
