Whistle rear diff r/s cv shaft flange poped out on highway

headed out to work today
got about 3 kms from home
tranny started acting weird, like it didn't know what gear to be in
got it towed home on a flat deck
hooked up inpa, reset adaptations
read the values for turbine speed, engine speed, battery voltage, all the sensors are working correctly
when I put it into drive or reverse it shows that it engages and it shows an output speed and road speed *but the x5 doesn't move*

-iam leaning towards transfer case
will check if the front shaft tc output is spinning on the splines, than I will check the actuator for the tc

tranny at 155xxxkms and the fluid has been changed twice with no signs of clutch material or metal filings

no dcs, abs, 4x4 lights on

any suggestions?

Rear right side diff flange has come out of the diff. Pic below

You can unplug the cable to the transfer case (X will be in rear wheel drive only with cable disconnected) to rule out problem with transfer case. But your symptom sounds more like transmission issue.

check your tranny fluid level first.

new transmission or transfer case issue

Looks as though the back right half shaft has come out of the differential

Unable go push/pry it back in

Hopefully it just pulled out, did it pull out all the way so you can see the end?

Only thing that hopefully didnt happen is that splines got damaged in the diff box. If it did then your gonna need a replacement.

How long can you drive with the transfer case unplugged (rear wheels only)?

I would think as long as you want. However, DSC will be disabled if the cable is unplugged.

Diff and flange splines look ok, ordered a seal and c clip yday, still hasn't arrived

Did some research on diffs, can i use a e39 m5 lsd carrier in my rear diff?

Are they both 210mm diff case?

I know the ratio is different
