Oms_in_Alberta is on a distinguished road
Hello from Alberta

Hello all. New member here. I have lurked the sight for the past 3 years or so since purchasing our 02 X5 4.4 M62. Love the car when it works well but has to be the most maddening vehicle ever made sometimes. It has suffered an occasional parasitic draw that will leave a no start every once in a while, with no apparent rhyme or reason to it. After looking for the trouble in the shop for over a week with no happy results, I noticed the radio/nav system on one morning when going to work. The Bmer is the wife's car.
Last winter noise started in right bank chain case, wife called me at work told her to get it home and shut off, ran maybe 5-10 minutes like this. Hauled into dealership in Edmonton. They said cam chain gone, needed to replace engine, engine was still running had not jumped time. Wasn't going to pay $20K to them. Researched noise on this site and others, ordered chains, guides, tensioners etc. and timing tools and did it myself as I could not find anyone who wanted to do it. After sitting in the yard for about 3 months before getting around to doing repair, I noticed one day that all my lights were on. Figured it was something with security system and low batt disconnected batt and forgot about it, until the other day.
Finished repairs the other night hooked up battery have a bunch of lights that I cannot control. Left high beam, right low beam, fog lamps, tail and sig lamps on all the time cannot shut them off. Signal and high/low sw have no effect at all. Have not been able to find any other reference to this problem on line. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
This is a great forum by the way.
Thanks in advance
Omer
