PSA: Be careful working on our older cars

I've had the X since '03. It was mine for about 4 1/2 years and I then it became the wifes care.

I'm OCD with any of the cars, whether it's 1 year old or 10. I'll even replace a trim, etc just because it's not newish...
I'll post a pic of how thick the X maint/receipt folder is...one day.

Just recently, I had alot of my custom audio stuff taken out, and made it a bit more wifey/kid friendly. I know something occurred during this time as the problem manifested itself right after, just not sure how or why, but it is what it is.....To make a long story short, some movement/force on the headliner by the top console I suspect cause the seal on my sunroof cassette to go bad.

I had water leaking and initially thought the drain hose has come loose.
Upon further diagnosis and confirmation, sunroof casette is bad/damaged and well....if you know what part I'm talking about, between the part and labor, it's one helluva costly repair on our now 12-13 year old car.

Here in chi-town , I know two Indy shops that sublet the labor from a mechanic who works at a dealership in downtown ( he does the work at night or weekends).. All in 1000 to 1200 (parts labor and tax) - two years warranty . What about there in NY?

If and when I really have to, then I have to bite the bullet.
For now no leaks, I permanently disabled all the controls (unplugging the connectors) on my panoramic roof, to make sure no accidental opening/tilting.
