DIY Castor Bush Replacement???

Did a search trying to find a DIY or similar to change the castor bushes on my 01 X5 3.0 and couldnt find anything.

Does anyone have any hints, tips or pics to show me?

Caster bushings? Where are those? U mean tension strut bushings?

hmmm........mechanic called them castor bushes. Apparently its the cause of the steering wheel shake/vibration i get when i brake at about 90km/h. He said given then weight of the X5 they regularly need replacing.

Yes those are the tension bushing. Have him check the balljoints that the tension arm connects to also. I hope he is familiar with BMW, once installed u must leave the bushings bolts loose until the car is loaded on it's tires. Push down on the car and then tighten those bolts. Otherwise the bushings will twist and continue to shimmy upon braking from 50-60

Yeh, he is a BMW expert. I was hoping to do them myself but im guessing it would be hard without a car lift or something.

U could do it with an impact gun, sockets, wrenches,press machine. Balljoint seperator and a shit load of beers

I'm thinking of replacing these castor arm bushing (thrust arm). I bought the bushings from ECS tuning. I understand the vehicle has to be under load before tighting the nut on the control arm. Can I remove and install the arm while on a ramp and not worry about anything since the suspension will still be under load?

Better to change it with the car jacked up in air then put load on the rotor, i usually use a scissor jack or floor jack with a piece of wood under, then tighten the bushing side of the arm.

The arm does have to do with caster on the strut because if theres play the strut can move forward/back.

Nope depends on where you are from. Aussie call them CASTOR Bushings.

OK I'll try taking them off jacked up and then place the car under load before tightening the bushing end.
