headlight problem

I have read a few threads where others have had the same problems but no follow up solution.

This morning I turned on the X5 and the only the halos were on. So I turned the lights off and back on again and they came on. So I pull out and when I get to the stop sign the lights go out. Once I take off they come back on. This happened in either auto or on settings. Every time I stopped the headlights would go out.

Since others have had this problem I'm hoping someone has a solution for me. Thanks

what you are describing sounds like a failing component... could be the lights bulbs, the ballast, could be wiring and could be the LCM...

Do BOTH headlights shut off? simultaneously? or just one? or one and the other one is independent from the first?

was there any water damage in the passenger foot well?

is the windshield clean in the area where the light sensor on the rearview mirror attached? is there a bubble in the glass?

are the lights of a different color, like instead of bluish tint, they are pinkish?

Both lights do it simultaneously. Color is still white/blue. I haven't noticed any water in the passenger side footwear but haven't looked. There is a rock chip in the glass way on the passenger side. GlassGlass is clean.

sorry, i lost the track of this thread... since both of the lights are out at the same time, the problem is probably within the LCM... each ballast is wired individually via MOSFET transistors, when each one is feeding about 3A to the ballasts (35W at 12VDC)... for both transistors to be out of commission at the same time is less likely... so I would suspect that a controlling circuit, the one that controls the MOSFET transistors is out...

This diagnosis would require replacement of the LCM, which is costly, and requires proper programming of the mileage... or a repair of the original LCM on component level...

Before considering the LCM defective, I also would like to hear other opinions about this issue...
