Hi all,

Been lurking for the past week and wanted to officially introduce myself. My name is Mike and I just picked up a 2005 X5 4.8is to haul my company's media equipment and get me through Chicago's horrid winters.

I'll probably attempt to keep this car mostly stock in comparison to its garage mates—I have some maintenance items to take care of immediately (oil leak, front control arms, leaky front driver's side bag), but afterwards I'd love to put in an E46 M3 steering wheel, a lowering module, spacers, and an intake and exhaust for a bit of extra growl.

It's been raining here the past couple days, but here's a quick iPhone shot of the car:

Haha great minds think alike! I'm actually in Clinton, IA a few times a year to visit my gf's family—is that far off from Ames?

Haha, Ames is dead center the middle of Iowa. Clinton is on the eastern border. But they're both on Highway 30...the ol' Lincoln Highway.

As far as I am aware, it is OE, though I am far from an expert on these - this is the first and only X5 I've driven. I will try to get some photos for you, yes. Have had quite a bit of interest in seeing that, so perhaps I'll just start an actual thread when I get photos taken.

It's being clay barred and waxed next weekend, so I'll get out the real camera at that point and take/post some good pics.

Welcome & congrats...but depending on what type of tires you have mounted...getting through a Chicago winter...especially if its going to be like the last one...may require different or dedicated winter "shoes" (tires).

Don't let xDrive/AWD fool you into thinking that tires made for summer will get you through winter.
