If you were in the States, I would say on the driver side, but seeing that you are across the pond and drives on the wrong side of the road and wrong side of the car I would say left. At least that is where bank 2 is located on Xs in the USA.

Because of the whole RHD-LHD conflict look at it this way, from this point of view BANK 2 is the right side of the engine, closer to the oil filter housing.

This is industry standard (there may be exceptions here and there) for V-type engine.

- When looking at engine crank pulley (front of engine):

V6
Bank 1---Bank 2
3---------6
2---------5
1---------4

V8
Bank 1---Bank 2
4---------8
3---------7
2---------6
1---------5

And the BMW standard for "left/right" is always the perspective of the driver from behind the steering wheel.

So this way...it doesn't matter if the vehicle is RHD or LHD...from behind the wheel (regardless of which side it's on) the left side and right side is from this perspective of the driver as they sit in the vehicle behind the steering wheel. No way to confuse things if you can remember the correct "perspective".

For example, if you pull up the diagram for the cylinder heads...you can see clearly in the part nbr index that #1 & #2 are for cyl 1-4 (which is BANK 1) and #5 & #6 is for cyl 5-8 (which is BANK 2):
