Manual transmission not transmitting!

I either just had sudden clutch failure or something else happened.

Ambient temp is low for the first time : 45*F.

I got into 1st, pulled out of my parking spot, then coasted down the ramp in neutral. At the bottom of the ramp, I put it into 1 and put the accelerator down and the motor tached up but nothing happened. I tried again in 2 and R, but there is no power going to wheels.

There is fluid in the clutch reservoir, and no horrible clutch fluid leak coming off the transmission.

I have had clutches fail before, but they usually give warning. This did not...if it is clutch. Is that reasonable?

Guarantee you stripped the transfer case/driveshaft. How many miles and is it pre facelift?

180,000, yes. Is that the driveshaft out of the transfer case?

Yep. At your mileage I would expect that's it. You'll need a rebuilt driveshaft with the longer splines, you'll also need some parts to repair/rebuild the transfer case. It is not for the faint of heart, gonna be a few grand I'll be honest.

The X will roll backwards with the car in gear and slight downhill slope right?

I didn't try rolling it backwards in gear, so I don't know about that.

I can test that when the tow comes.

Anyone know where you get said longer spline shaft and new input flange? I see the internet tells me this is indeed, "a thing."

On a positive note, if I fix this, I can do my rear main seal.

Couldn't I just put a different tcase in there with a new shaft?

You cowboys in the state of Texas don't know how to drive when the weather turn cold. You hit a patch of ice and the wheels were spinning and you were going no where. Don't floor the X the next time.

Negative. No ice in 45*F. And I grew up practicing driving AWD trucks (NP203, anyone?) in snow and ice when everyone else was playing NES on a "snow day." I've put enough cars into culverts to know better, but thanks for the tip.

I have a 318 with a holley quad on it in the garage, maybe I will just convert to 2wd and put that in with an 4speed. That would work, right??

It looks like you can get a rebuilt unit and a better shaft for 1250 on the 'bay. So, I've got that going for me...

Ah ha. That was a dash, not a negative. Fixed. But when is the last time it was -45F in Texas? Pleistocene era ice age?

Anyway, it sounds like Ricky is right. Can I confirm by pulling the shaft and inspecting the splines?
