What did I break

A $60 DIY fix is going to turn into a more expensive fix for me. Looks like I snapped the nipple on the main coolant hose while taking out the fan for pulley and tensioner replacement

so, the hose is an all-in-one piece that doesn't look too bad but I might just pass this all over to the indy now. This kinda looks like some overflow hose, but I'd like the experts to weigh in on whether or not the car is drivable to said Indy.

I hope you are kidding. Do not drive the car like this. You will empty the cooling system in a matter of minutes. Bad for the environment. REALLY bad for your engine.

It's an easy hose to replace. The ends are held on with spring clips. Drain system, replace hose, refill, purge.

It's on sale on eBay for about $116.00 +/- almost twice what it cost for the $60 DIY fix.

The $60 was the pulley repair that I completed. I'm replacing the hose...no worries, just got caught up in the heat of the moment with breaking it. Just needed a tasty beverage to clear my mind

Glad to hear that.

But just because I am a pathological cheapskate, I want to point out that the usual online dealers like BMW of Morristown sell that hose for $82 (which is less than the best price for the aftermarket version I could find).

BMW Parts - BMW Parts and Accessories

I would look on the bright side of this - those plastic parts should be able to handle shock, so unless you hit it with a BFH, I would go along with the thinking that you avoided an imminent side-of-the-road failure with a part that was about to fail.

BTW: don't feel special for breaking that part. Did the same thing...
