2001 X5 horn relay
Can someone please tell me where the relay is on a 2001 X5 3.0i? I replaced the horn as it didn't sound right. Still the same problem, so i guess its the relay, but the manual doesn't say where it is, if it has one. If it doesnt have a relay, (???), I'll have to wire one.
Thanks.

Probably under the hood by the fuse box ....do you hear the relay clicking , regardless of horn noise ? Even if the horn is bad, if you listen, you should be able to hear it..

Doing just a simple search in the part database...it looks like it may be located behind the glovebox (if you're LHD {left hand drive}):
Check out this link to realoem.com:

Thanks, I checked in the hood and it wasn't there. Behind the glovebox, behind the fuse box is where I will check next and seems more difficult to access.

I finally got to replacing the relay for my horn. its on top of the fuse box in the glove box. You will need to remove the glove box and remove the 4 screws that hold the fuse box. It was the white relay in the picture. Maybe someone can identify the green relay on top to help others in the future.
It was quite a PITA to remove so many things just to replace a relay, but I guess this should last a while. I replaced it with a black Bosch relay. Thanks to Qsilver7 for the info on where to find it.

if you hear the clicking does that mean that the relays has gone bad? My horn almost never works, once in a while it will sound very low. Someone please help!

A single click will mean the relay is being activated. Continuous clicking may mean a loose connection. I can hardly hear the clicking sound when i press the horn button. You could try to replace the relay to try though.
