15.8v bad ?

ok so i bought a ctek mxs 5.0 charger and used it and all good so far, manual shows the first step as pumping out up to 15.8v (this applies to the other models too the 4.3, 3.8 etc) this cant be good can it?

My guess is it will be OK as it is an "Intelligent" charger and is using the higher voltage to boost a badly depleted battery. It does not sit forever at that voltage plus the vehicle is off while charging.
Different thing if this were the output from the alternator whilst the vehicle were driving.

Many BMW owners trust this company's products and battery maintenance approaches to keep our own batteries charged, safe, and ready to go when spring time comes once again.

Connect and trust that you are OK.

Thanks fellas like I said was happy with the mxs 5.0, been nearly 1 week since I 'topped' up battery via the jump points and car has been starting fine! so may have saved buying a battery until next winter......

Chargers that have a plate desulfating function will run a short 15.8 volt cycle.

thanks for all the replies, well the manual says if you choose the recon option to remove the battery from car before using this due to the 15.8v possibly being a problem to the electronics, however looking at their charge process table step 1 desulphation shows as passing up to 15.8v through either way....
