I will never forget that thread. I should have hit my thumb with a hammer at least twice instead of starting it.

Latest update---It's great! Working better than expected. No issues, no changes from original set up. 100% controlled by temp sensor in the radiator fins so that it runs when the key is off based on where the variable temp controller is set.

Fitting the 195 F Spal sensor into Auto Meter radiator hose adapter. I've used this Permatex sealant on E39's and it's designed for coolant purposes and it doesn't interfere with the ground function of adapter body.

I have two questions,

1. Is the SPAL electric fan size 16"?

2. The Auto Meter you used, is this the exact one "FITTING, ADAPTER, RADIATOR HOSE, 1.5", 1/8" NPTF FEMALE, ALUMINUM"

FITTING, ADAPTER, RADIATOR HOSE, 1.5", 1/8" NPTF FEMALE, ALUMINUM

This is the summary of the electric fan install. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ctric-fan.html

I went with a radiator probe and an adjustable controller. That way I can adjust the controller to when I want the electric fan to come on and the install is easier than inline thermostats. Concerns with a probe are that it does not accurately measure temp, harmful to radiator and won't stay in place. All potential problems that can be easily eliminated by the install and choice of purchase.

The fan is 16". Diameter is important as the fan should cover at least 70% of the radiator which it does in my case. That was also the maximum size that would fit inside the shroud for my particular application. I searched but never found a verified CFM for the clutch fan. I chose a fan based on mfg. tech input as to the size engine and HP it will easily cool.

I still have the auxiliary fan in place. The controller is currently set to start the fan just prior to when the auxiliary fan starts. The fan is wired so that it continues to cool when the engine is off so that the radiator coolant never exceeds normal operating temp. I have not changed the engine thermostat as it is appropriate for DD and based on my setup I get plenty of cooling if I am racing.

I have a straight blade fan. That was what was available in the size, profile and CFM that I wanted. Curved fans are said to be quieter but I like the sound. I don't hear it when I am driving. I can hear it but barely if I am sitting at a light.

Fan is still going strong and has well exceeded my expectations. Great mod and would certainly do it again.
